PM Modi To Visit Himachal, Punjab Today To Review Flood Situation

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Himachal Pradesh and Punjab on Tuesday to assess the flood devastation and review relief measures, following weeks of heavy monsoon rains that triggered floods and landslides across northern India.

Himachal Pradesh Visit

According to officials, the Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, around 1:30 p.m. He is expected to conduct an aerial survey of the worst-hit regions, subject to weather conditions.

Later, Modi will chair a high-level meeting in Dharamshala with senior state officials, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local rescue volunteers. He is also expected to meet flood-affected families to hear their concerns directly.

Punjab Engagements

Following his Himachal engagements, PM Modi will reach Gurdaspur, Punjab, at around 4:15 p.m. After an aerial survey of flood-hit areas in the state, he will hold a review meeting with top administrative and disaster management officials and interact with residents impacted by the floods.

The BJP stated that the visit is intended to ensure “close monitoring of relief and rehabilitation efforts” and guarantee “all necessary central support” for affected communities.

Political Reactions

Ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit, Punjab Cabinet Minister and AAP state president Aman Arora demanded that Modi announce a relief package of at least ₹20,000 crore. He criticised the visit as “mere flood tourism” and called for the release of pending funds, including ₹50,000 crore in GST compensation and ₹8,000 crore under Rural and Market Development Funds.

Arora noted that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has already written to the Centre multiple times, seeking urgent financial assistance to rebuild damaged infrastructure and support affected families.
