In a major announcement that has thrilled Tamil cinema fans, veteran actor Kamal Haasan confirmed that he will soon collaborate with superstar Rajinikanth on an upcoming film. The announcement was made on stage at the SIIMA Awards 2025, where Haasan won for his performance in Kalki 2898 AD.
A Long-Awaited Reunion
The two legends, who last worked together decades ago in films like Apoorva Raagangal, Moondru Mudichu, Avargal and Pathinaru Vayathinile, will now share the screen again. Fans have long demanded their reunion, and Haasan’s confirmation has ended years of speculation.
Kamal on Competition and Friendship
Addressing the audience, Haasan said, “It’s good if the audience likes it. If they’re happy, we’ll like it. Otherwise, we’ll continue trying. This was long coming… We don’t have any competition between us. It’s important that we got the chance to do this. We always wanted to produce each other’s films.”
He added that while the industry and media often portrayed them as rivals, their personal bond has always been one of mutual respect.
Possible Lokesh Kanagaraj Project
Though Haasan did not reveal further details, industry buzz suggests the project may be helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, who previously collaborated with Kamal in Vikram. Lokesh recently hinted at plans to include both actors in his expanding cinematic universe (LCU).
Recent Works
Rajinikanth was last seen in Coolie, which released last month, while Kamal’s most recent outing was Mani Ratnam’s Thug Life, now streaming on Netflix.
For fans of Tamil cinema, this long-awaited collaboration between two of its greatest icons promises to be one of the industry’s most celebrated events.
