Owaisi Says Modi–Xi Meeting Failed to Address Key Concerns

New Delhi – AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, saying the talks did not provide answers on issues that matter most to Indians.

In a post on X, the Hyderabad MP said the discussion ignored China’s support for Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, the extension of the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) into Afghanistan, and the sharing of hydrological data on rivers.

Owaisi also pointed to the border situation in Ladakh, claiming Indian soldiers have been unable to patrol several buffer zones since 2020 and local graziers are denied access to traditional grazing lands.

He further alleged that China made no assurances on resuming supplies of rare earths or increasing imports from India. “These are the issues that matter to Indians, not the photo op, the colour of a jacket or the length of a carpet,” Owaisi remarked, calling the meeting a missed opportunity.

Modi–Xi Talks at SCO Summit

The two leaders met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, where they agreed to work towards a “fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable” solution to the long-standing India–China border dispute.

According to the Indian side, both leaders also pledged to expand trade and investment ties, reduce the trade deficit, and cooperate on broader issues such as terrorism and fair trade practices in multilateral forums.

Prime Minister Modi stressed that peace along the border was essential for progress in bilateral relations, and underlined India’s commitment to advancing ties on the basis of mutual trust, respect and sensitivity.

Despite the conciliatory tone of the official statements, Owaisi maintained that the meeting failed to deliver concrete outcomes on issues of national importance.
