Indian Software Engineer Found Dead at Microsoft’s Silicon Valley Campus

Pratik Pandey, a 35-year-old software engineer at Microsoft, was found dead on the company’s Silicon Valley campus in the early hours of August 20. Pandey had badged into the office on the evening of August 19, and his body was discovered the following morning, according to a family member who spoke to Microsoft and wished to remain anonymous.

Pandey was known for his late-night work habits, often staying in the office after hours. The cause of death is still under investigation by the Santa Clara County medical examiner, though no foul play is suspected. A memorial service for Pandey is scheduled for Thursday in the Bay Area, where he is remembered as a joyful soul with a radiant smile who loved playing soccer and was a great son and friend.

Microsoft has not commented on the incident, but a person familiar with the matter confirmed that the company is conducting its own investigation.

Pandey, who worked on Microsoft’s Fabric product, a competitor to Snowflake Inc. in data analysis, reported to Scott Guthrie, the executive vice president of cloud and AI at Microsoft. He joined the company in 2020 after previous roles at Walmart and Apple. Pandey was an alumnus of San Jose State University.

Following the news of his death, tributes and memories of Pandey have flooded social media, with many expressing their shock and grief. His family, along with community members, is now working to have his body returned to India, where his parents reside.

Mountain View Police responded to the scene around 2 a.m. on August 20. They found “no signs of any suspicious activity or behavior,” and the death is not being treated as a criminal investigation, according to a police spokesperson.
