PM Modi Takes Bullet Train Ride with Japanese PM Shigeru Ishiba, Meets Indian Drivers Training in Japan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Japan for an official visit and took a memorable ride on Japan’s famed bullet train with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on Saturday. The two leaders traveled from Tokyo to Sendai, with Ishiba sharing pictures of the journey on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

The Prime Ministers observed Japan’s next-generation ALFA-X bullet train during the ride, which is designed to set new standards in high-speed rail. The chairman of East Japan Railway Company (JR East) provided detailed briefings on the features and technology of the advanced train, which promises to push the boundaries of speed and efficiency.

In an exciting development, Modi met with several Indian train drivers who are currently undergoing training with JR East in Japan. These drivers, part of an ongoing collaboration between India and Japan, lined up to greet the Indian Prime Minister before the ride. Modi interacted with the trainees, discussing the importance of their role in the future of India’s railway system. The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to pose for photographs with them, underlining the significance of this exchange.

Earlier in the day, Modi met the governors of 16 Japanese prefectures in Tokyo, where he spoke about the importance of deepening ties between India’s states and Japan’s prefectures. He emphasized the potential for increased cooperation in trade, innovation, entrepreneurship, and emerging fields like artificial intelligence, technology, and startups. The discussions also underscored the value of the State-Prefecture Partnership Initiative, which was launched during the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit.

Modi’s visit highlights growing India-Japan collaboration, with a strong focus on infrastructure, technology, and mutual development.
