Guru Randhawa Restricts Instagram Comments After Backlash for ‘Sexualizing’ Schoolgirls in Music Video for Azul

Guru Randhawa is facing significant backlash over his latest music video, Azul, with critics accusing him of sexualizing schoolgirls and romanticizing an inappropriate teacher-student relationship. In response to the controversy, Randhawa has restricted comments on his Instagram posts, a move many believe is linked to the growing public outcry.

Controversy Surrounds the Music Video’s Portrayal of Schoolgirls

Released earlier this month, Azul features Guru Randhawa playing a photography teacher who is waiting to take a group photo. Actor Anshika Pandey, portraying a school student in uniform, enters and performs a dance sequence, with Randhawa’s character visibly captivated by her. The video then shifts to Pandey in casual clothing, performing bolder choreography.

The video has sparked concern on social media, with many critics accusing it of normalizing predatory behavior and glamorizing an unethical relationship between a teacher and a student. While Pandey’s real age remains undisclosed, her portrayal as a schoolgirl in the video has only intensified the backlash.

Social Media Criticism and Growing Concerns

One social media user wrote, “Guru Randhawa’s new song Azul has him ogling at girls in school uniforms, and when people started pointing it out on Instagram, he restricted comments.” Another user on X (formerly Twitter) stated, “Media portrayals that trivialize or glamorize the sexualization of children only worsen this issue by reinforcing harmful behaviors and making predatory attitudes seem acceptable.”

Critics expressed outrage, with one user commenting, “Guru Randhawa’s new music video is disgusting. A grown man is instantly attracted to a schoolgirl, and this is romanticized??? Since when did we normalize such behavior?” Another wrote, “Guru Randhawa’s music video shows hypersexualization of a girl in uniform, implying a school-going teen girl. The lack of outrage from Indians represents a collective loss of morality.”

Guru Randhawa’s Response

Despite the growing criticism, Guru Randhawa, who also wrote and composed the song with additional lyrics by Gurjit Gill, has not issued a public statement regarding the controversy. However, his decision to limit comments on Instagram could be seen as an attempt to manage the escalating backlash.
