Swara Bhasker is facing significant backlash on social media after a comment she made about sexuality went viral. In a recent interview, the actor stated, “All humans are fundamentally bisexual,” and also revealed that she has a crush on Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav. The interview, which aired five months ago, resurfaced online recently, sparking intense debate and criticism.
Swara’s Response and Twitter Bio Update
Reacting to the growing buzz, Swara addressed the criticism with a lighthearted post on X (formerly known as Twitter). She tweeted, “Thought it’s time to change the bio (giggling emoji),” and updated her profile to read: “Girl crush advocate. Part time actor, full time Twitter pest. Chaos Queen. Shopping my way through the apocalypse. Free Palestine.” The new addition of “Girl crush advocate” appears to be a playful nod to the ongoing social media discussions surrounding her comments.
She also shared a screenshot of the definition of a “girl crush,” writing, “Honestly… what is the big deal?”
Details of the Controversial Interview
Swara’s comments about sexuality were made during an interview with Screen, where she was accompanied by her husband, politician Fahad Ahmad. She discussed her belief that heterosexuality is a culturally imposed “ideology” rather than a natural human inclination. “We are all bisexual. If you leave people to themselves, we are actually bisexuals, but heterosexuality is an ideology that has been (put in us) culturally for thousands of years,” Swara said.
In the same interview, Swara was asked about her crush, to which she mentioned Dimple Yadav, the Samajwadi Party MP. Swara shared that she had recently met Dimple, which led to more online discussions and backlash.
Swara’s Personal Life and Current Projects
Swara, alongside her husband Fahad, is currently participating in the reality show Pati Patni Aur Panga—Jodiyon Ka Reality Check, hosted by Munawar Faruqui and Sonali Bendre. The show features celebrity couples and tests their relationship dynamics.
Swara and Fahad registered their marriage under the Special Marriage Act in January 2023 and announced it publicly in February 2023. The couple welcomed their first child, daughter Raabiyaa, in September 2023.
