Jaswinder Bhalla, Popular Punjabi Comedian and Actor, Dies at 65

Jaswinder Bhalla, the beloved Punjabi comedian and actor best known for his role as Advocate Dhillon in the Carry on Jatta series, has passed away at the age of 65. He died early on Friday at Fortis Hospital in Mohali, following a hospitalization. His last rites are scheduled to take place on Saturday at Balongi, with many of his colleagues from the Punjabi film industry expected to attend.

A Legendary Career in Punjabi Cinema

Bhalla’s career spanned nearly three decades, during which he became a household name for his comedic roles in numerous Punjabi films. He started his acting career with notable comedies like Dulha Bhatti and also made an impact in the Hindi film Mahaul Theek Hai (1999), directed by Jaspal Bhatti. Over the years, he appeared in several major Punjabi hits, including Jatt and Juliet, Sardaar Ji, and Carry On Jatta.

His portrayal of Advocate Dhillon in the Carry On Jatta franchise, in particular, earned him widespread recognition, with his character becoming iconic thanks to Bhalla’s trademark humor and memorable catchphrases.

Recent Work

Bhalla’s most recent appearance on screen was in the 2024 film Shinda Shinda No Papa, starring Gippy Grewal and Hina Khan. The film marked a continuation of his legacy in Punjabi cinema, cementing his place as a cherished figure in the industry.

Family and Legacy

Jaswinder Bhalla is survived by his wife, Parmdeep, a fine arts teacher in Chandigarh, and their son, Pukhraj Bhalla, who is also an actor. Pukhraj, initially an engineer, followed in his father’s footsteps and made his film debut in the 2000s, appearing in music videos before joining the film industry. Father and son appeared together in the 2013 film Stupid 7.

Bhalla’s contribution to Punjabi cinema and comedy will be fondly remembered by fans and colleagues alike.
