Pune, Aug 21 ā A civil court in Pune has issued summons to actors Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi, and director Subhash Kapoor in connection with their upcoming film Jolly LLB 3. The summons follow a petition alleging that the film shows the judiciary in a disrespectful light.
According to the petition, filed by lawyer Wajed Rahim Khan, certain scenes in the movieās teaser mock the legal system, with specific objection to judges being referred to as āmamaā, a slang expression. The court has directed the three to appear in person on October 28 at 11 am.
Speaking to ANI, Khan said, āThere should be respect for lawyers and judges. Whatever has been shown is wrong, which is why I filed the petition. The court has asked Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi and the director to be present.ā
Background of the Case
The complaint was first filed in 2024, after the release of the filmās initial teaser. Last week, a new teaser was unveiled, showcasing the much-anticipated courtroom clash between the two āJollysā ā played by Akshay and Arshad ā which appears to have revived the controversy.
About the Film
Jolly LLB 3 is the third installment in the popular legal comedy franchise. The first film, released in 2013 with Arshad in the lead, was a sleeper hit, earning close to ā¹50 crore against a budget of ā¹10 crore. The 2017 sequel, led by Akshay Kumar, went on to gross over ā¹200 crore worldwide.
This time, both actors reprise their respective roles and face off on screen for the first time. Written and directed by Subhash Kapoor and produced by Star Studio 18, the film is scheduled to hit theatres on September 19, 2025.
