Vivo is set to announce its first mixed-reality headset—Vivo Vision—on August 21, 2025, but the launch will be limited to China, meaning Samsung’s upcoming Project Moohan headset faces little competition globally.
Vivo Vision: Apple Vision Pro-Level Immersion
Vivo claims the Vivo Vision offers immersion and precision on par with the Apple Vision Pro, currently considered the gold standard in mixed reality. The headset is designed to be extremely lightweight and features three-dimensional hand and finger gesture controls, a digital crown for adjusting display opacity, and a premium build combining metal, plastic, glass, and fabric.
No Android XR, China-Only Launch
Unlike Samsung’s Project Moohan, Vivo’s headset is unlikely to run Android XR, as Google has confirmed Samsung’s device will be the first to use it. The Vivo Vision will be showcased in select Vivo stores in China, where customers can try it before reserving a purchase—suggesting no plans for an international rollout.
Impact on Samsung
Samsung plans to launch Project Moohan later in 2025, potentially priced between $2,000 and $3,000, undercutting Apple’s $3,500 Vision Pro. With Vivo’s headset limited to China, Samsung’s global XR ambitions remain unaffected.
