Coolie Advance Booking Smashes ₹50 Crore; Rajinikanth Set to Break Records Before Release

Four days ahead of its release, Rajinikanth’s Coolie has already crossed the ₹50 crore mark in worldwide advance bookings, setting the stage for a historic box office debut. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the action entertainer is shaping up to be one of the biggest Indian film openings ever.

Record-Breaking Pre-Sales

Advance bookings for Coolie opened internationally earlier this week, crossing $4 million (around ₹34 crore) by Saturday. By Sunday, the overseas figure had risen to $5 million (about ₹42 crore). In India, ticket sales began on Friday in a staggered rollout, and as of Sunday morning, domestic pre-sales have touched ₹14 crore — ₹10 crore of which is for opening day alone.

The Tamil version leads with nearly ₹10 crore in advance sales, while the Telugu and Kannada versions are showing strong early momentum. The Hindi dubbed version has been slower, with about 2,500 tickets sold so far, but is expected to pick up closer to release.

Outperforming Big Films Before Release

Even before hitting theatres, Coolie has already overtaken the lifetime earnings of some films. In India, its ₹14 crore pre-release earnings are higher than the total domestic collection of the Hindi film Emergency. Overseas, the film’s ₹41 crore gross has already surpassed the foreign market performance of Kamal Haasan’s Thug Life.

Star-Studded Lineup

The film features Nagarjuna, Upendra, and Shruti Haasan in lead roles alongside Rajinikanth, with Aamir Khan making a cameo appearance. The combination of a star-heavy cast and Lokesh Kanagaraj’s direction has fuelled massive anticipation across languages.

With four days still to go before its August 14 release, Coolie is on track to break Rajinikanth’s own Jailer advance booking record of ₹18 crore in India, and may even challenge Leo’s all-time record of ₹46 crore. If current trends continue, it could mark the biggest opening of the superstar’s career.
