After the release of Saiyaara, a film featuring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, which became an unexpected hit, speculations arose about the delay in the release of Son of Sardaar 2, starring Ajay Devgn and Mrunal Thakur. The release of Son of Sardaar 2 was moved from July 25 to August 1, sparking questions about whether the filmmakers postponed it due to the overwhelming success of Saiyaara.
In a candid conversation with Instant Bollywood, Mrunal Thakur addressed these speculations. She emphasized that the decision to push back Son of Sardaar 2’s release was not due to fear of competition, but rather a strategic move to give both films the space they deserved. “If a film like this is doing well, we want it to breathe, right? We want it to get its due love and recognition. I mean, ‘Why not celebrate Saiyaara?'” she said, highlighting her support for the success of Saiyaara.
Mrunal further explained, “Let’s give all the screens and everything to a film that deserves that much love.” She added, “I am so happy and proud of them [Ahaan and Aneet]… Welcome to cinemas!” Although she hasn’t yet watched Saiyaara due to her promotional commitments, she expressed her excitement to see the film, calling its opening “humongous.”
She also brushed aside any claims that the delay was due to fear, saying, “There are a lot of questions, as in people are saying, ‘Oh, you got scared…’ I am like, no, we are only supporting a film which is doing well, and I am so happy that films in Bollywood are doing great, especially with newcomers.”
