Ex-Maharashtra Minister’s Son-in-Law Detained in Pune Rave Party Raid; Drugs, Liquor Seized

Pune police detained seven people, including Pranjal Khewalkar — the son-in-law of former Maharashtra minister Eknath Khadse — after raiding a private party early Sunday morning in the Kharadi area. The Crime Branch seized narcotic substances including ganja, along with hookah setups and liquor, from a studio apartment where the party was being held.

According to police officials, the raid was conducted following a tip-off about a suspected rave party. “Seven individuals — five men and two women — have been taken into custody. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway,” said a senior police officer.

Pranjal Khewalkar is married to Rohini Khadse, who currently serves as the state president of the women’s wing of the opposition Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction). Former minister Eknath Khadse, also affiliated with NCP (SP), questioned whether the police action had political motives. “There should be a probe to determine if this raid was influenced by politics,” he said.

Reacting to the incident, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sushma Andhare suggested that the raid may be a warning to those criticizing the government.

The seized items and ongoing investigation have brought renewed focus on the conduct of politically connected individuals, and whether enforcement actions are being influenced by political rivalry.
