New Delhi is gearing up for a spectacular aerial display as part of the Republic Day celebrations, with a planned flypast featuring 29 aircraft. This year’s parade will also showcase a newly choreographed formation named ‘Sindoor,’ adding a fresh dimension to the traditional flypast.
The flypast will commence with the ‘Dhruv’ helicopter formation, followed by the Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) in the ‘Rudra’ formation. These will be succeeded by the ‘Netra’ Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft, providing crucial surveillance capabilities. The flypast will then transition to the iconic formations of the Indian Air Force (IAF).
A significant highlight will be the debut of the ‘Sindoor’ formation, performed by six Rafale fighter jets. This formation is designed to represent the vibrant color and spirit of India, and promises to be a visually stunning spectacle. The Rafales, known for their agility and precision, will execute complex maneuvers over the Rajpath, captivating the audience.
Following the ‘Sindoor’ formation, the flypast will feature the ‘Garud’ formation comprising five Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas jets. The Tejas, India’s indigenous fighter aircraft, will demonstrate its capabilities and contribute to the patriotic fervor of the day. The flypast will also include the ‘Diamond’ formation with ten Jaguar aircraft, and the ‘Arrowhead’ formation with three Hawk Advanced Jet Trainers.
The grand finale will be a lone Su-30MKI aircraft performing a Vertical Charlie maneuver, a challenging aerial feat showcasing the pilot’s skill and the aircraft’s power. The entire flypast is expected to last approximately 15 minutes, providing a breathtaking visual experience for the spectators.
Preparation and Coordination
Extensive preparations and meticulous coordination are underway to ensure the smooth execution of the flypast. Pilots are undergoing rigorous training to perfect the formations and maneuvers. Air traffic control is working closely with the organizers to manage airspace and ensure safety. The weather conditions are being closely monitored, as they can significantly impact the flypast.
Officials have stated that the flypast is not merely a display of aerial prowess but also a symbol of India’s growing self-reliance in defense. The inclusion of indigenous aircraft like the Tejas underscores the country’s commitment to ‘Make in India’ and reducing dependence on foreign arms.
Security arrangements have been tightened across the national capital in anticipation of the Republic Day celebrations. The flypast route will be heavily guarded, and anti-aircraft guns will be deployed to prevent any untoward incidents. The Delhi Police is working in coordination with other security agencies to ensure a safe and secure environment for the parade and the flypast.
