Kathua (J&K), August 17, 2025 – At least four people are feared dead and several others injured after a cloudburst triggered flash floods in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir late Saturday night, officials confirmed on Sunday.
The cloudburst struck Jod Ghati village in Rajbagh, leading to sudden flooding that damaged houses and farmlands in the area. Villagers reported that the water level rose rapidly, leaving little time to escape.
Highway Traffic Disrupted
The floods also affected parts of National Highway 44 (NH44), a key road link passing through Kathua. Authorities said efforts are underway to clear debris and restore normal traffic movement.
Weather Alert Issued
The Kathua district administration has sounded a high alert, warning residents about “heavy to very heavy rainfall” across the district. People have been advised to stay away from rivers, streams, and landslide-prone zones.
“The public is strongly advised to avoid going near rivers, streams, and hilly areas. Due to continuous rainfall, water levels can rise suddenly, increasing the risk of flash floods and landslides,” the District Information Centre said in an advisory.

Ujh River Near Danger Mark
Officials said heavy rainfall has caused most water bodies in the district to swell. The Ujh river is currently flowing close to the danger level, raising fears of further flooding if rain continues.
