22-Year-Old Law Student Brutally Attacked in Kanpur After Argument Over Medicine Price

KANPUR: A 22-year-old law student from Kanpur University was left critically injured after a violent altercation with a medical shop attendant turned gruesome on Sunday. Police said the student’s stomach was slashed open, and two of his fingers were chopped off during the attack.

The victim, identified as Abhijeet Singh Chandel, is a first-year law student. He is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital, where doctors said he needed 14 stitches to his head and remains in critical condition.

Dispute Over Medicine Price Turns Violent

According to police, the incident began when Abhijeet had a heated argument with a medical store employee, Amar Singh, over the cost of a medicine. The confrontation quickly escalated, and Amar Singh was soon joined by his brother Vijay Singh and two others, Prince Raj Srivastava and Nikhil.

The group allegedly attacked Abhijeet with sharp objects, striking his head before slashing open his abdomen. Despite his injuries, the student attempted to run towards his home, crying for help. However, the attackers caught up with him again and chopped off two of his fingers, police said.

Locals Rush to Help, Accused Flee Scene

Hearing the victim’s screams, nearby residents rushed to his aid. The accused men fled the area before police arrived. Abhijeet was taken to the hospital by locals and later shifted to the emergency ward for surgery.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the assault. Efforts are underway to arrest all four suspects.
