Mahindra & Mahindra has launched the 2025 version of its popular off-road SUV, the Thar, with an attractive starting price of Rs. 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). This latest iteration aims to broaden the Thar’s appeal by offering a more accessible entry point and enhanced features.

Key Highlights of the 2025 Mahindra Thar

The 2025 Thar retains its iconic design while introducing subtle updates to both the exterior and interior. The most significant change is the introduction of a new, more affordable variant. This base model is designed to attract a wider customer base who appreciate the Thar’s rugged appeal but seek a more budget-friendly option. The vehicle continues to be manufactured at Mahindra’s Nashik plant.

Under the hood, the 2025 Thar offers a range of engine options, including petrol and diesel variants. These engines are tuned to deliver a balance of performance and fuel efficiency. The 2.0-liter petrol engine produces 150 bhp and 320 Nm of torque, while the 2.2-liter diesel engine generates 130 bhp and 300 Nm of torque. Both engines are available with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Inside, the 2025 Thar features an updated cabin with improved materials and a more modern layout. The infotainment system has been upgraded to include a larger touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Other notable features include automatic climate control, rear parking sensors, and a multi-function steering wheel.

Safety features have also been enhanced in the 2025 model. It now includes dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors as standard across all variants. Higher trims get additional safety features such as electronic stability control (ESC) and hill hold assist.

Market Impact and Competition

The launch of the 2025 Mahindra Thar is expected to further solidify Mahindra’s position in the SUV segment. The competitive pricing and updated features make it an attractive option for both off-road enthusiasts and city dwellers. The Thar competes primarily with vehicles like the Force Gurkha and certain variants of the Maruti Suzuki Jimny.

Mahindra is also focusing on expanding its service network to cater to the growing Thar customer base. This includes setting up more service centers in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities to ensure better after-sales support. The company is also offering various customization options and accessories to allow customers to personalize their Thars according to their preferences. Bookings for the 2025 Mahindra Thar are now open at all Mahindra dealerships across India, and deliveries are expected to begin shortly.

With its blend of ruggedness, affordability, and modern features, the 2025 Mahindra Thar is poised to make a significant impact on the Indian automotive market. The launch reflects Mahindra’s commitment to providing innovative and value-driven vehicles to its customers.
