Gonda, Uttar Pradesh | August 3, 2025 — A tragic accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district claimed the lives of 11 people, including three children, after a vehicle carrying devotees veered off the road and plunged into the Saryu Canal. Four others were injured in the incident, police confirmed.
The victims were on their way to the Pirthvinath Temple when their vehicle lost control near the Moorganj police station on the Seehgaon-Kharagoopur road. Authorities said the vehicle was carrying 15 passengers at the time of the crash.
Emergency services were called to the scene after local residents alerted police. The bodies were later recovered from the canal, and the injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Chief Minister Announces Compensation
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and announced ₹5 lakh in financial aid for each family. He also instructed district officials to ensure the injured receive proper medical care.
Investigation Underway
Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident. Initial reports suggest that the driver may have lost control of the vehicle, but further details will be released following a thorough inquiry.
